About the Role

We are seeking a Mid-Senior PHP Backend Developer (6–10 years of experience) to join our team in Berkeley Heights, NJ. This is a multi-year contract role (renewed annually) in a hybrid onsite model. Candidates must demonstrate deep backend development expertise, PHP proficiency, and hands-on experience with enterprise-scale, high-performance applications.

Key Responsibilities

• Architect, design, and develop robust backend systems using PHP.
• Build and optimize RESTful APIs, web services, and integrations across platforms.
• Work extensively with modern PHP frameworks (CodeIgniter, Laravel, Symfony, or similar) for backend-heavy workloads.
• Develop scalable data processing, caching, and backend logic for enterprise systems.
• Collaborate with frontend teams while maintaining a backend-first approach.
• Ensure code quality through unit testing, integration testing, and performance tuning.
• Troubleshoot, debug, and optimize backend logic for low latency and high availability.
• Manage relational and non-relational databases (MySQL, PostgreSQL, MongoDB) with complex queries and stored procedures.
• Implement CI/CD pipelines, containerization (Docker/Kubernetes), and backend deployment automation.
• Enforce best practices in security (OAuth, JWT, API protection), scalability, and enterprise compliance.

Required Qualifications

• 6–10 years of backend-focused development experience with PHP 7/8.
• Strong hands-on expertise with CodeIgniter and exposure to other modern PHP frameworks (Laravel, Symfony, etc.).
• Proven experience in building enterprise-scale backend systems, APIs, and integrations.
• Solid database design and query optimization experience in SQL/NoSQL environments.
• Familiarity with DevOps practices, CI/CD pipelines, Git, Docker, Kubernetes.
• Working knowledge of JavaScript, HTML, CSS for backend–frontend integration.
• Strong problem-solving skills, especially in production issue resolution and backend system performance tuning.
• Experience working in Agile/Scrum teams.

Nice-to-Have Skills

• Cloud platform experience (AWS, Azure, or GCP).
• Knowledge of microservices architecture and distributed backend systems.
• Hands-on with asynchronous processing, queues (Kafka, RabbitMQ, SQS).
• Experience in financial or high-volume enterprise applications.

• Role requires 6–10 years of professional backend PHP development — entry-level applicants will not be considered.
• Multi-year contract with annual extensions.
